Lumea Prestige BRI955 vs BRI954 vs BRI953 vs BRI950 vs BRI956: what’s the difference?

I f you’re thinking of buying the Philips Lumea Prestige, rest assured it’s a fine choice. This short article first gives you a quick summary of why it’s ace, and then explains the differences bewteen the Lumea models BRI958 vs BRI956 vs BRI955, vs BRI954, BRI953 and BRI950.

Zapping my legs with the Philips Lumea Prestige home IPL
We find the Prestige is the easiest on legs, and ace for all areas too!

I’ve tested all the leading home IPL hair removal devices and the Prestige comes out on top for quality and performance. It’s my overall favourite because it’s such a good all-rounder for both small and large areas, but especially legs and whole-body hair removal sessions. It’s packed with helpful features unmatched by its rivals.

Here’s a quick round-up of how I score it and the Prestige’s pros and cons:

Lamp lifetime
More flashes than you’ll ever need, lasting 15+ years of use. It’s one of the best.

Ease of use
Most intuitive, comfortable and precise home IPL I’ve tested. Easy flashes with the curved windows. Use it fast on mains-power or cordless on small areas in your bathroom.

Effort & Results
Long-lasting smooth after 4 to 5 sessions (1 every 2 weeks), plus top-ups every month or so. A low effort device. Results last even longer after more top-ups.

Pros

  • Superb quailty
  • Most comfy gun-shape
  • Easy-flash precise curved windows hug your skin
  • Corded for fast legs
  • Cordless for small tricky areas and your ladybits in the privacy of your bathroom!
  • Fast & accurate sessions
  • Powerful IPL for long-lasting results
  • Safe skin tone sensor matches your best IPL intensity
  • Clinically-proven & CE certification
  • UK 100-day money back guarantee – visit Philips.co.uk

Cons

  • It’s quite big & heavy
  • Expensive at full RRP
  • Not yet FDA-cleared in US

So, what is the difference between the models and which one should you buy?

In the latest 9000 series are the BRI958 and BRI955 models. The BRI956/4/3/0 are the earliest models in the Prestige range, but every bit as good. The difference between the Prestige models is their colour, the number of IPL flashes, the specialist flash windows with each, and of course, the price. Compare them in the table below:

DO YOU NEED EVERY SPECIALIST WINDOW?

Do you need all the flash windows?

Well, no. You don’t need them all.

The BRI956 has 4 flash windows? But do you need them all? Find out if the BRI956 vs BRI954, BRI953 and BRI950 is best!
The models differ in colour, specialist flash windows and price. The BRI956 has 4 flash windows, but you don’t need them all.

The BRI950 gives you everything you need to treat your body and face with the large curved-in body window and the small flat precision window.

The large curved-in body flash window and small flat window for face
Large curved-in body & the small flat precision window with all models

The Lumea BRI953, BRI954 and the latest BRI955 halso have the body and face windows, plus an additional curved-out specialist window for underarm & bikini. It has an added filter to better target stubborn hairs in these areas. This means you can use the highest safe intensity without the sting!

The BRI956 was the first released of this new model, and the BRI958 one of the most recent in the 9000 series. They have the large curved-in body window, small flat face window and two additional windows. First, there’s a curved-out underarm window and second a separate curved-out bikini flash window. They’re slightly different shapes, but really you don’t need both (especially if it costs more!).

I do like the idea of this specialist window with filter to treat stubborn bikini spider-legs and underarm hairs. But you’ll still get super results without it.

With ALL models: The large curved-in body attachment is magic on legs & tummy!

For me, it’s the large curved-out body attachment that makes all the difference on legs and tummy anyway. Because it hugs your curves, is precise and makes it super-easy to get a flash. You get that with all the models.
