I’ve tested all the leading home IPL hair removal devices and the Prestige comes out on top for quality and performance. It’s my overall favourite because it’s such a good all-rounder for both small and large areas, but especially legs and whole-body hair removal sessions. It’s packed with helpful features unmatched by its rivals.
Here’s a quick round-up of the Prestige’s pros and cons:
- Unrivalled comfort & intuitive ergonomic gun-shape
- Easy-flash precise curved windows hug your skin
- The easiest & most precise for legs
- Fast & accurate sessions
- Use mainspower for fast large areas
- Use it cordless on your ladybits in the privacy of your bathroom!
- Powerful for long-lasting results
- Skin tone sensor recommends your best IPL intensity
- Clinically proven & CE certified
- 100-day money-back guarantee – visit Philips.co.uk
- Very expensive at the full RRP
- It’s quite heavy because of the rechargeable battery inside
- Not yet FDA-cleared
So, what is the difference between the models and which one should you buy?
The difference between the Prestige models is their colour, the specialist flash windows with each, and the price. Compare them in the table below:

DO YOU NEED EVERY SPECIALIST WINDOW?
Do you need them? Well, no. You don’t need them all.
The BRI950 gives you everything you need to treat your body and face with the large curved-in body window and the small flat precision window.
The Lumea BRI953 and BRI954 have the same and both have an additional curved-out window for underarm & bikini. It has an added filter to better target stubborn hairs in these areas. This means you can use the highest safe intensity without the sting!
The BRI956 was the first released of this new model. It has the large curved-in body window, small flat face window and two additional ones. First, there’s a curved-out underarm window and second a separate curved-out bikini flash window. They’re slightly different shapes, but really you don’t need both. Hence, Philips combined them into the underarm & bikini window for the slightly newer BRI954 and BRI953 models.
And I do like the idea of this specialist window with filter to treat stubborn bikini spider-legs and underarm hairs. But you’ll still get super results without it.
For me, it’s the large curved-out body attachment that makes all the difference on legs and tummy anyway. You get that with all the models.
