Remington iLight IPL6780 review

Silk'n Infinity best home IPl safe for dark & black skin

A quick summary…

by | February 15, 2015

The Remington iLight range are older IPL devices. The IPL6870 is the most recent and best value iLight model suitable for face and smaller body areas. However, rival devices give much faster sessions for zapping large areas or whole-body. Check out my other recommended best buy at-home IPLs such as the Smoothskin Pure and Silk'n Infinity.

The Remington iLight range use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to inhibit hair regrowth. They reduce regrowth speed, density and overall amount of hair. With continued use you’ll stay hair-free.

There are several models in the iLight range. The most recent is the iLight Ultra (USA), iLight IPL 6780 and IPL 6750 (UK and Europe). Other older models are the iLight IPL 6500 and IPL 6250. All the devices are manufactured by Spectrum Brands Inc, and marketed by Remington.

These models are easy and comfortable to use, but application time is very slow. Choose a more recent rival device for zapping legs or your whole-body. The design of the models has remained largely unchanged for years with gradual improvements in the lamp lifetime. If you find and decide to buy, it’s important you choose the iLight IPL 6780 and IPL 6750 which give plenty of flashes for several years of smooth skin. Don’t choose a model with replacement cartridges as these are much more expensive in the long run.

Remington iLight Review Summary

This slightly dated design at-home IPL from from Remington is safe for fair to medium skin tones. The IPL6870 and IPL6750 give plenty flashes but slow sessions, so it’s best for treating smaller body areas only. Check out my recommended best buy at-home IPLs for faster and more recent rival devices.

Lamp lifetime

⚡⚡⚡⚡

The latest IPL6780 model gives plenty of flashes to give 5+ years of monthly use. The older models aren’t so good, and some you must buy replacement cartridges which are much more expensive in the long run. Avoid these.

Ease of use

👍👍

A slightly dated mains-power base-unit and handheld applicator design. All the basics you’d expect such as a basic skin tone sensor and facial attachment. It does the job and at higher intensity levels than rivals too. But it’s too slow on large areas like legs.

Effort & Results

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Do 3 treatments at 2-week intervals (taking 4 weeks), then do a further 6 to 12 weekly sessions. The more sessions you do the less frequently you’ll need top-up sessions. Do these as you need them, every month or 2.

Pros

  • Comfortable to hold and move
  • Simple to operate
  • Small precision attachment for easier flashes
  • FDA cleared and CE certified

Cons

  • Sessions are slow (15+ mins per leg), so use it on face and smaller body areas only
  • The skin tone sensor is awkward to use because it’s in the base unit

I'm a bit obsessed with at-home beauty devices. It's a habit I've had for around 9 years now. I love the science, testing and reviewing them, and sharing my experience and feedback on my site Wearebodybeautiful.com. I'm also a crazy dog lady, and I don't care.
JOVS Venus Pro IPL review
JOVS Venus Pro IPL review

The JOVS Venus Pro is a fast & easy IPL hair reduction AND skin rejuvenation device in-one. It’s safe for light to dark skin and works on dark hair. I love the targetd modes, auto-flash function, & clever rotating head. It’s an alternative design approach that all comes together rather well.

Philips Lumea Prestige review
Philips Lumea Prestige review

The Philips Lumea Prestige is the comfiest and most precise device I’ve tested. It’s safe for light to dark skin, and works on dark hair. I love the corded or cordless gun-shape, curved windows, fast sessions and clever itensity matching sensor. Expensive but worth it, it’s my favourite IPL device.

Smoothskin Pure & Pure Fit home IPL review
Smoothskin Pure & Pure Fit home IPL review

The Smoothskin Pure is the best value premium at-home IPL money can buy. The clever skin sensor auto-adjusts each powerful flash to match your skin tone, so it’s super-safe for light to dark skin. It’s point-and-zap, light-weight and nimble, and with speed mode on legs it takes just 19 minutes for a whole body zapping. It’s the easiest and fastest home IPL I’ve ever tested. 😍

Iluminage Touch & Me Sleek review
Iluminage Touch & Me Sleek review

This machine uses combined IPL & RF tech (called Elōs), which makes it safe and effective for all skin tones including the darkest, and it works on fair hair too. This model is suited to face, small and large body areas.
