Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2006 review

Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2006/11

4.0

The Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2006/11 is an older cordless model in the renamed Lumea Prestige range. It was released in 2014, but just because it's older it doesn't mean it's not every bit as premium and effective as the latest models. The key difference is the number of flashes - the SC2006 has 140,000 vs 250,000 in the newer models. See if the Lumea SC2006 is right for you.

  • Great for full body & face and large areas
  • For use on body & face
  • Cordless, battery-powered operation
  • User score 4.3 stars

A full leg takes 14 mins

Cons

  • It’s expensive, but the value for money is good

Is the Lumea SC2006/11 good value?

It’s very good. The bulb from it gives a minimum of 140,000 flashes. Combined with the 4 cm2 body treatment window that means you can treat a total body area of 560,000 cm2. That’s around 150 full body treatments (full legs, bikini line, underarms and face). That’ll keep you going for well over 5 years of monthly top-up treatments.

Prices range from £200 to £300 so the cost per full body treatment over 5 years of use is from £2.35 to £3.53.

The value is very good, but bear in mind the latest Lumea Prestige devices provide around 15 years of use from their flash bulb. If the prices are similar and they’re available where you live, you’re better off choosing one of them.

N.B. 5+ years of use is based on the bulb life only and doesn’t take into consideration general usage, wear and tear that effect how long the machine keeps working.

Is the SC2006/11 easy to use and how fast are the treatments?

The features, functions and operation of the SC2006 are identical to the latest Prestige models. Please head on over to the Lumea Prestige SC2009 and SC2007 review to learn more.

What do the online Lumea Precision Plus reviews say?

We counted and researched over 300 online reviews for the SC2006. The overall score from the online Lumea Precision Plus SC2006/11 reviews is a very strong 4.3 stars.

User score 4.3 stars

What did low rated reviews say?

Around half of the 3 star and below reviews report their hair did grow back slower and in patches, with finer regrowth. But they give a low rating because they had unrealistic expectations of permanent hair removal.

user-rating-4-3There was just 1 report of a faulty device, which was replaced under warranty.

Approximately 5% of the reviews said it didn’t work for them. Most reviewers tried for at least 4 treatments, with a handful having persevered for over 6 months.

Other negatives mentioned concerned the battery life not lasting a full treatment, you can’t use the device whilst it’s charging and knowing the battery degrades slowly over time. Some reviewers found the device heavy to hold after a while, the treatments were ‘slow and laborious’ and some thought the storage pouch too flimsy.

What did the positive ratings say?

Reviewers loved that the device is easy to use, comfortable to hold and virtually painless – just a flash of heat. Whilst some of the negative reviews thought the battery didn’t last long enough, other reviewers loved the cordless operation, thought the battery life was great and loved being able to use the device anywhere. Others mentioned a positive side effect since using the device – their in-grown hairs had gone.

The reviewers reported great results too.

Philips suggests a minimum of 4 fortnightly treatments, taking 6 weeks to complete. They also recommend top up sessions as you need them to help keep your skin smooth.

Many reviewers report good results after 4 initial treatments. One reviewer reports around 80 to 90% hair reduction 4 weeks in, whilst another took almost twice as long to match that. Some note the speed of results can differ by body area. Many more reviews didn’t state a timeframe but did report very positive results.

Regrowth slows, and is ‘patchy and soft’ and ‘not prickly like when shaving so it is less noticeable.’ Some report bald patches and then no need to shave because they’ve ‘next to no hair regrowth”. And many say they have healthier skin without ingrown hairs.

“There was no change at all after the first treatment and after the second one my hair just took a little bit longer to grow back. I was a bit worried if it was going to work at all. The third and fourth treatments made a big difference though and I’m glad I kept going! Now I just shave maybe once a week and there are big bald patches on all treated areas. It’s not quite perfect yet though and I think it will be a while until I’m completely hair free. I think the results I’ve had already are worthy of a 5 star review though. It’s so much easier to keep my hair under control now and it’s a relief not having to shave every single day.”

There are several reviews from long-term users that give great insight into how effective the device is for them.

“After five years of use I have found that I have very little hair and I now only use it around four or six times between April and September. Hair growth is so much slower and sparser that I now barely need to do very much zapping.”

What are the alternatives?

The main alternative to the SC2006 are the latest models in the Lumea Prestige range (the SC2009 and the SC2007) and the Lumea Advanced models (SC1997 and SC1999).

Philips Lumea Prestige SC2009 gun-shaped device with the bikini and facial attachment by its side. The SC2009 and SC2007 are identical to the SC2006 except for the improved bulb life. They give a minimum of 250,000 flashes which provides up to 15 years worth of treatments. The SC2009 also comes with a specialist bikini attachment. It’s designed to be more gentle on this sensitive area so you don’t feel the need to reduce the intensity level, therefore it has a stronger effect. It’s an all round great performer and is awarded our Best Buy for full body and face treatments.

Philips Lumea Advanced SC1999 gun-shaped device andfacial and bikini attachment by its sideIf you prefer a mains-powered model try the Philips Lumea Advanced. It’s specification is identical but being mains-powered you won’t have any concerns over charging or caring for the battery. It comes with a skin tone sensor because it’s not suitable for quite as broad a skin tone range. It’s very easy to use and although it doesn’t feel as expensive as the Prestige models, it has a retro charm that gives it a different character. It’s a great choice.

Should I buy the Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2006?

Yes. It’s a great choice for treating larger areas, and full body and face treatments. You’ll get years and years of use from the device and it has all the same top-notch design features as the most recent Lumea Prestige models.

You may be able to find the SC2006 at a discount price when compared to the latest Lumea Prestige or Advanced models.  It’s worth checking prices for each before deciding because you may find yourself a bargain!
