What is it?

The CurrentBody Skin Lip Perfector is a wearable LED (Light emitting diode) device you hold in your mouth. It shines LEDs of four red wavelengths onto your lips, upper lip, and nasolabial areas of your mouth.

The photons in these specific light wavelengths boost blood flow and energise the mitochondria, which are the power generator organelles in your cells. The process is called photobiomodulation.
This perks up all your cells, including fibroblasts which build more and stronger collagen and elastin. This gradually heals and refreshes your skin. With regular use, they’re clinically proven to reduce facial lines and improve texture and pigmentation for younger-looking, healthier skin. Use an optional Hydrogel Lip Mask for enhanced skin hydration too.
✔ Reduces inflammation
✔ Boosts blood flow
✔ Faster cell metabolism & so more ATP energy
✔ More antioxidants & detoxifies cells
✔ More & stronger collagen & elastin

First impressions
I love the simple black-and-white colours and prism-like lines on the CurrentBody Skin packaging. The Lip Perfector has a touch of silver too. The cardboard box is small but sturdy, neat and precise, and unfussy but beautifully finished.

The contents are tightly secured in a protective, carved-out black foam. It’s recyclable ♻️ (if your local area can take it).

What’s in the box?
- LED Lip Perfector
- User manual
- USB charging cable
- Spare mouth tray
- Charging stand
- Storage bag
Quality & design

The Lip Perfector is white, small, and curvy with simple CurrentBody Skin branding. The front is made of a smooth, wipe-clean glossy white-plastic shell. Press the silver button to turn on the LEDs, and long-press it again to turn them off. On the back is a sticky-out, wide semi-opaque silicone mouth tray, and a ring of neat LED circuitry following the curvy outline. It’s shaped to match and cover the contours of your mouth area.

Pinching the end of the silicone mouth tray, pull it off the device. Two small barbs on the device insert into the tray and hold it securely in place. Once removed, you can wash the tray in soapy water. You get two trays so you can alternate washed-&-wet with a clean-&-dry one. Simply line it up to the barbs and push the tray back onto the device.

The charging stand is white with black trim and branding. The Lip Perfector securely snaps onto the top with a satisfying gentle magnetic ‘click’. There’s a protective clear plastic cover which fits snug over the device and the stand. It reminds me of a fancy carriage clock, but also of a Futurama severed head in a jar. Just me? Righto.
Anyhoo, the base is weighted at the bottom and it has four small circular and strong grips underneath so it’s unlikely you’ll accidentally knock it off your bedside table.

The USB charging cable is good quality and flexible. It’s 1 metre long which is decent but may not reach your USB adapter or socket if it’s located at a mains outlet. I have one of those USB banks on a mains extender cable, and that does a grand job.
Connect the cable to the base of the charging stand, or remove the mouth tray and connect it to the port directly on the Lip Perfector device.

You also get a small white fabric draw-cord storage bag. Keep the Lip Protector in this if you charge it and store it without the stand. The device and charging cable fit comfortably inside.

A lot of thought has gone into the Lip Perfector. It’s a neat, quality bit of kit and comes with a 2-year warranty too.
Before you start
Read the user manual and do a skin sensitivity test.

The thin booklet is a quick and easy read. There are no diagrams, but it’s a very simple device so it doesn’t need them. The content is in English, French, German and Italian. It provides a short background on CurrentBody Skin, contraindications, warnings, safety information, how to do your sensitivity test, charging, your treatments, maintenance, cleaning and finally troubleshooting.
You shouldn’t use this device if you are sensitive to light or are taking medication which makes you light-sensitive. You must also be over 18, not pregnant or have cancerous lesions. You can learn more about red light therapy here.
You’ll likely know if you’re light sensitive already, but if you want to check turn on and hold the lip perfector against your inner forearm for a 3-minute session. If your skin shows no long-lasting redness after 2 hours, you’re good to go.
TIP: Test the lip perfector immediately once you receive it because CurrentBody accepts returns within 14 days of purchase for those who experience skin or eye sensitivity.
The routine
Use the Lip Perfector on clean and dry skin. You can do it at any time during the day or evening. And it fits most activities which don’t require you to speak. Or lick.

- Wash and dry your face. Check the mouth tray is clean and secured to the device.
- Pop it in your mouth, poppet.
- Press the on button. Sit for 3 minutes after which the lights auto-shut off.
- Remove it from your mouth and dry off the mouth tray and device. Store it in a safe place until next time
And you’re done!
What does it feel like?
I love how simple the Lip Perfector is. No levels to choose from or gels to apply, just on and then auto-off.

The silicone mouth tray is a good, comfy size and it’s easy to gently grip against one of the small ridges with your teeth. But try not to bite down hard on it because this creates tension in your jaw, around your mouth and across your lips.
Instead, relax your mouth. I find it helps to softly pout. My lips don’t reach the end of the tray and touch the lights. But it’s ok, it’s comfy and close enough.

The lights are very bright, but your eyes adjust to them after a few seconds. If it’s too bright, just close your eyes and have a short 3-minute power rest. And rest assured the lights are safe for your peepers.
There’s no sensation from the lights. It doesn’t get hot or tingly. But, for the first few sessions, it does feel a bit odd. For example, I have trouble swallowing my pooling saliva without sucking the mouth tray like a big dummy.
But I get the hang of it, eventually.
And then it’s done. Three quick and easy minutes of hands-free, zero-concentration lip-plumping fun. And maybe a little bit of dribble. But that’s me most days anyway.
Skin reactions to this light are rare. Your skin may be a bit red afterwards but it should return to normal within 1 to 2 hours.
Schedule, effort & results
Use the Lip Perfector for 3 minutes daily. It’s for ongoing use.

It’s very easy and quick so requires little motivation and is easy to stick with. If you keep it in the charging base on your desk or bedside table, you’ll see it and remember to use it. And it quickly becomes a habit. You can use it whilst watching TV, checking your socials, working on your laptop, reading etc. Like the rest of the CurrentBody Skin LED range, it’s hands-free and zero concentration.

If you already use the CurrentBody Skin LED mask, you’re likely to see enhanced results in this area if you use the Lip Perfector. That’s because of the LED light concentration and positioning in the Lip Perfector vs the wearable full-face mask.
Take photos…
Take before and after comparison photos so you can see your progress! Because changes are hard to spot when you scrutinize your skin every day!
Your collagen and elastin rebuild gradually, as the LEDs work their magic at different depths in your skin. Most people feel a change in their skin after a few weeks of use. These changes become noticeable at around 4+ weeks. Skin smooths, hydrates, plumps and firms so fine lines fade and wrinkles soften. Pigmented spots fade as your skin brightens and your lipline and lips become more vivid and defined. And lips feel more plumped and juicy (although this may not be visible on already thinned lips). You’ll see your best results after around 8+ weeks once your collagen is rebuilt. Keep using the Lip Perfector daily to maintain your results.
WHAT IT FIXES:
✔️fades fine lines ✔️softens pucker lines & smile lines, ✔️plumps & firms skin, ✔️plumps nasolabial folds & lips, ✔️rehydrates, ✔️fades pigmented spots, ✔️defines fuzzy liplines, ✔️heals blemishes.
As with all home beauty tech, results vary by individual. Your lifestyle, age and overall skin health determine the breadth and depth of your results. You may see all the possible results or just a few, and to varying degrees too.
Negatives
There are just a couple of negatives with the Lip Perfector.
First, as mentioned earlier, the lights are bright. You can use it in a brightly lit room so it feels less intense. Or close your eyes during the short 3-minute session if you find them irritating.
Second, the device itself has not been through a clinical trial. So, why on the front of the box does it clearly say “Clinically proven technology”?
Well, that’s a true enough statement. Scientists have done loads of clinical studies into red light therapy. So, in that sense, the LED technology of red light therapy is clinically proven. But this specific device design hasn’t been tested in a clinical trial. And clinical trials give very reassuring data and feedback on safety and results.
However, that doesn’t mean the Lip Perfector is not safe and won’t give you results. From my tests I conclude, it’s very simple and user-friendly, and it has passed all the related CE electrical and manufacturing safety standards. Plus, the cosmetic grade LEDs inside the Lip Perfector are built to give the desired effect on your skin cells. So, whilst I’d be happier with some clinical trial results, I trust the CurrentBody Skin brand to deliver. Also, you get a reassuring 60-day money-back guarantee to try it and see your results.
